SEO vs Google Ads in Pakistan

SEO vs Google Ads in Pakistan: Which Should a Small Business Choose?

Almost every business owner in Pakistan who looks into online marketing ends up at the same fork: pay Google for ads, or invest in ranking naturally. Both bring customers from search. They work very differently, cost differently, and suit different situations. Here is how to decide, with real Pakistani numbers.

The core difference

Google Ads is rented visibility. You are at the top within hours, and you disappear the moment the budget runs out. SEO is earned visibility. It takes months to build, then keeps working with light maintenance. Most businesses that can afford it run both, with the balance shifting toward SEO over time.

Google Ads SEO
Time to first results Hours 3–6 months
Cost pattern Steady, rises as competitors bid High at first, falls over time
What happens when you stop Traffic stops the same day Rankings fade slowly over months
Cost per lead after 12 months Roughly flat Usually well below paid
Best for Urgent leads, launches, testing a market Long-term growth, lower cost per lead

When Google Ads makes sense

  • You need leads this month. A new clinic, a seasonal offer, a launch. Ads put you on top today.
  • You are testing a market. Ads quickly show which services people search for and what a lead is worth, which is useful before committing to a longer SEO plan.
  • Your margins can absorb the click cost. In Pakistan, clicks run from around PKR 20 for low-competition terms to PKR 80–250 for competitive keywords, and higher in property, law and cosmetic treatments. Small businesses usually start at PKR 30,000 to 60,000 a month to gather useful data.

The catch: costs climb as more competitors bid, and the traffic vanishes the day the budget stops. You are renting the position.

When SEO makes sense

  • You are in it for the long term. SEO compounds. A page that ranks keeps bringing visitors for years with light upkeep.
  • Your customers research before buying. If people read and compare before choosing, content that answers their questions builds trust an ad cannot.
  • You want a lower cost per lead over time. The first few months feel expensive for little return. After that, the cost per lead usually drops well below paid search.

The catch: patience. Little happens for the first three to four months, and that is hard to sit through. Our guide on how long SEO takes covers what is going on during that time.

How to run them together

Use ads to cover the gap while SEO builds. Then let the two inform each other:

  1. Run ads on your core service terms from day one.
  2. Use the search terms that actually convert in your ad account to decide which pages and articles to create for SEO.
  3. As your rankings come in for those terms, reduce ad spend on them and shift the budget to terms you have not earned yet.
  4. Over a year or two, a growing share of your search traffic becomes free.

A rough budget split

Starting from nothing with a limited budget, a common split is around 60 percent ads and 40 percent SEO for the first few months, then moving toward the reverse as rankings arrive. If you have no urgency and a small budget, put everything into SEO and accept the slow start. If you need leads immediately and have deep pockets, start with ads and add SEO once cash flow is steady.

Frequently asked questions

Is SEO or Google Ads better for a small business in Pakistan?

Ads are better when you need leads now or are testing a market. SEO is better for long-term growth and a lower cost per lead. Most small businesses start with ads and shift budget into SEO as rankings build.

How much does Google Ads cost in Pakistan?

Clicks range from about PKR 20 for low-competition terms to PKR 80–250 for competitive keywords, higher in sectors like property and law. Small businesses typically start at PKR 30,000 to 60,000 a month.

Can I do SEO and Google Ads at the same time?

Yes, and it is usually the strongest approach. Ads deliver leads immediately while SEO builds, and the converting search terms from your ad account tell you what content to create for SEO.

Will running Google Ads improve my SEO?

Not directly. Ads and organic rankings are separate systems. Ads can indirectly help by showing you which keywords convert, which you can then target with SEO.

What happens to my leads if I stop Google Ads?

They stop almost immediately. This is the main reason to build SEO alongside ads, so you are not left with nothing when the budget pauses.
