E-commerce SEO in Pakistan: What Actually Moves Sales

Running an online store in Pakistan comes with a specific SEO problem: you have hundreds or thousands of pages, most of them product pages that look almost identical to Google, and a few category pages that could bring real traffic if they were set up properly. Generic SEO advice does not handle this well. Here is what actually matters for e-commerce.

Category pages are where the traffic is

People rarely search for one exact product by name. They search for a type: “men’s leather jackets”, “wireless earbuds under 5000”, “cotton kurtas for women”. Those searches land on category pages, not individual products.

Page type Search intent What it needs
Category / collection Browsing a type of product A real heading matching the search, a short useful text block, clean URL and title, filters that do not create crawlable duplicates
Product Comparing or ready to buy Original description, specs, price, availability, product schema, reviews
Buying guide / blog Still deciding Genuine advice that answers the decision, linking to the relevant category

Fix duplicate and thin content first

Most store platforms generate duplicate pages automatically: the same product in three categories, filtered views, sort orders, and session parameters. Left alone, Google wastes its crawl budget on junk and your real pages get indexed slowly. The fixes:

  • Canonical tags on filtered and sorted views, pointing to the main category page.
  • “noindex” on internal search result pages.
  • An XML sitemap that lists only the pages you actually want ranked.
  • Merge or remove near-empty category pages with two or three products.

Write product descriptions Google has not seen before

If your descriptions are copied from the supplier, hundreds of other stores have the same text and Google has no reason to rank yours. You do not need an essay per product, but your top sellers deserve original descriptions that answer real buyer questions: sizing, material, delivery time, warranty, what is in the box.

Add product schema

Structured data lets Google show price, availability and review stars directly in the search result, which lifts click-through rate. Most modern platforms support it through a setting or plugin. The job is making sure it is present, valid, and shows the correct price and stock status. Our WordPress technical SEO checklist covers how to validate it.

Speed matters more for stores

E-commerce pages are heavy: large images, tracking scripts, review widgets, chat tools. On the mobile connections most Pakistani shoppers use, a slow store loses sales and rankings together. Compress and lazy-load images, serve modern formats like WebP, and remove scripts you are not using. Core Web Vitals are a ranking factor and a conversion factor at the same time.

Build content around what you sell

Buying guides and comparison articles bring in shoppers earlier in the decision. A store selling appliances can rank for “inverter AC vs normal AC electricity cost” and capture people who are still deciding, then link them to the relevant category. This turns informational traffic into product views.

Where to start

  1. Audit for duplicate and thin URLs, and fix canonicals and noindex.
  2. Rewrite descriptions and add text to your top 20 category and product pages.
  3. Add and validate product schema.
  4. Fix image sizes and page speed.
  5. Publish buying guides for your highest-margin categories.

That order gets you the fastest visible movement.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most important SEO task for an online store?

Fixing duplicate and thin content so Google spends its crawl budget on the pages that matter, then optimising category pages, which capture the “type of product” searches that drive most e-commerce traffic.

Do I need unique descriptions for every product?

Not immediately. Prioritise original descriptions for your best sellers and highest-margin products. Supplier-copied text on those pages is a direct reason Google ranks competitors instead.

What is product schema and why does it matter?

It is structured data that tells Google a page is a product, along with its price, availability and ratings. It makes your result eligible for rich snippets with stars and price, which improves click-through rate.

How does site speed affect an online store’s SEO?

Core Web Vitals are a ranking signal, and slow pages also lose sales. E-commerce pages are heavy, so image optimisation and script cleanup have a bigger effect on stores than on simple sites.

Should an e-commerce site have a blog?

Yes, if it targets buying guides and comparisons for your categories. That content captures shoppers who are still deciding and links them through to products.
